Day Five Hundred and Twenty Three - Lightning at Kaiteur

A dramatic image to end the blog with! This is pretty much the last photo I took in Guyana, and I've not really taken any since (I'm having a break, and most of my gear is being fixed or cleaned). I'm now back in the UK and the blog is finished. I'll not be continuing the photo-a-day project in the UK (at least, I don't think so!)... I'm not sure what the next step is. There are some decisions to be made... maybe some plans to put in place... Watch it all unfurl at my new blog: www.jmbphotoblog.blogspot.com

As for my Guyana photos... Well, if you want to see any of them on a better quality website, or even buy good quality prints, go to www.jmbroscombe.deviantart.com. There might even be some pictures there which didn't make it on the blog - for a start, there are a whole load of pictures of Kaiteur in this folder!

  1. Quite a bang on which to end. I don't like the number though, couldn't the stars have cooperated and made this number 525? :)

Its been a thrill viewing your photos of Guyana, too many to count would have jazzed up an issue or two of National Geographic. And all well above average. I'll look forward to seeing what you display in future.

  2. It could have been perfect! The lightning was all to the left and then suddenly there was this one in the perfect position! If only I'd been on Johnson's View that evening! Someday I'll come back and spend a week at Kaiteur...! (or a whole year - I'm sure I wouldn't run out of material!)

  3. Going out with a bang, as they say. Nicely done James, this is definitely not a scene of Kaieteur I have ever seen, Lightning!

  4. Thanks Michael. I was lucky to get it, as it was a pretty unpredictable storm, but a little bit unlucky in that I didn't get it centre frame, and didn't quite have the settings right... Still, mustn't grumble - it gives me an excuse to come back one day!

  5. You really got me to sit up with this one James - outstanding capture indeed. Love the lightning shot the other way (downriver) too. Great stuff! - keep in touch.

  7. MAGIC! Nothing to be ashamed of in this photo! It has drama, awe, magic, enough to inspire the imagination to story telling. A gathering of the ancient gods Water, Wind, Earth, and Fire all at their most dramatic.
