I really don't want to give the impression that we are living in a birdwatcher/photography paradise where you could point a camera in any random direction and be fairly sure of getting a picture of an interesting bird... but.... I was just finishing dinner, and happened to have the camera with a long lens on the table next to me, when I saw a large movement through the window. This Chicken Hawk had just landed on the garden fence post, only about 2 meters away from the window. I just had time to line the camera up between the window shutters and take two pictures before it took flight, and I moved on to pudding.

I say, What a fine thing... Now, apparently the Chicken Hawk is a generic name for a group of American Hawk type birds, but I can't seem to id this one convincingly, the colour of the eyes and beak seem wrong for the Coopers hawk but that seems the closest
ReplyDeleteIn that case it could be the newly discovered Broscombe Hawk. Or Pudding Hawk to its friends.
ReplyDeleteAs well as being so lazy I just sit eating and get the wildlife to come to me, I also have no idea what things are called! I just show Sarah the pictures and ask her! I think there may be a birds of Guyana website somewhere - but on dial-up in the middle of nowhere now, so not the best time to check!
