  2. Back to this one. I have rated it boring.. Why is that? Thew subject matter is great. Beast with saddle and lady with child. Why didn't it grab me? answers on a postcard.. lol

  3. It is most definitely NOT boring! How many of us could handle a small child and a cow with scary horns in such a competent and relaxed manner!?!?

  4. Interesting! I suspect Win is suffering from Brilliance Fatigue (I don't know how B can expect to follow up Granny spinning- makes me positively tearful!). I think it might be because the ox, the girl and the baby are all in the same plane- it feels 2-dimensional, frozen. I take Esther's point too: it's amazing when you stop and think about confidently handling those two both at once. But it is SHE, not the photo, that is amazing. And the rendering on Blogger is AWFUL on my screen... Might have to find a new blog site??? S

  5. Hi all - I agree this is a weak image from the start. If we have a 5 star rating system and no-one dares rate anything less than 4 stars, then it becomes a two star rating system. In a blog where all the photos are above average, this one will have to be the least above! I might have to rate it myself at one star! (PS Win, it's showing as rated 3 stars at the moment, I hope you didn't bow to public pressure!)

My view is that I'm using the wrong lens on this. I should be wide, and up close to the girl and baby, framing them as the initial point of interest, and then having the ox as a big-bonus add-on to the side of them, but angled to lead the eye away.

I've been enjoying getting back to prime lenses lately - but like everything, it's swings and roundabouts!
